Welcome to the GHR Foundation

We are delighted to welcome GHR Foundation to the KCS members’ network.

Alongside their partners around the world, GHR re-imagines what’s possible when pursuing change across our areas of impact: Education, Global Development, Alzheimer’s Prevention and more.

The foundation’s global development funding takes an integrated approach to tackling complex challenges by advocating for children outside family care, employing inter-religious approaches to peacebuilding and empowering Catholic Sisters. The education the GHR founders received, shaped their lives, and they continue their commitment to providing hope and opportunity through education by investing in innovative and values-focused institutions and programs.

To welcome GHR to our network, our Child Safeguarding Network Manager Bill Harris asked the organisation a few questions. This is what they had to say.

What made you decide to join the KCS as a member?

In learning more about KCS from conversations with our philanthropic peers, we came to appreciate the international perspective KCS brings to safeguarding, and their experience across a range of contexts and issue areas. We deeply value the opportunity to learn from KCS’ staff expertise, and from other KCS members, as we enhance our safeguarding policies and practices. Finally, we are eager to work alongside KCS, as the world’s leading global network committed to safeguarding vulnerable children from exploitation and abuse, to ensure our safeguarding efforts adhere to the highest standards possible, and meet the international standards to which KCS adheres.

What is your key driver in your ambition to implement child safeguarding?

GHR has a commitment to prioritizing care for vulnerable persons, whether they are children separated from the nurturing care of their families, or Alzheimer’s patients marginalized by the disease’s debilitating effects. As we reaffirm and formalize our commitment to care, we have been enhancing our safeguarding policies and developing a holistic safeguarding organizational structure and practices that will be integral to our everyday work. In partnering with KCS, we intend to explore new ways to bring training and support to our partners.

Where do you think your organisation will be regarding child safeguarding in a year?

We envision our organisation establishing a clear plan for developing and implementing better safeguarding policies and practices, and instituting that work across our organisation and grant portfolio within the next year. We also aim to ensure our leadership, staff, and board receive the necessary training to be more knowledgeable in integrating better safeguarding principles into their individual roles and responsibilities at GHR Foundation.

What message do you want to tell your staff, donors and the wider world?

For more than 50 years, we have been of service to people and their limitless potential for good. Central to realizing our mission is ensuring the safety of vulnerable populations everywhere, and true safeguarding demands that each of us as funders and service providers critically consider how we might best care for all the lives that our work impacts — from the lives of those we hope to benefit at the community level, to the individuals within our partner organizations as well as our own staff. We view greater accountability, transparency, and comprehensive safeguarding as an inherent part of leading with love, and invite our peers to join us in supporting and enacting the same.
