It will help you plan and facilitate workshops for staff and associates who have little understanding of what is meant by “child abuse” and what their responsibilities are to safeguard children.

It can be used to:

  • support induction and provide an introduction to child safeguarding for new staff
  • facilitate a refresher learning event
  • strengthen existing organisational child safeguarding policy and protection measures.

The exercises in the guide will help to:

  • create an understanding of child safeguarding
  • raise knowledge and awareness of how to recognise and respond to safeguarding concerns, using child safeguarding policies and procedures
  • clarify individual and organisational roles and responsibilities.

Sections and exercises

This workshop is built around four essential parts of a learning event, each with its own sections and exercises.

  • Section 1 – The context for children
  • Section 2 – Understanding child abuse
  • Section 3 – Understanding child safeguarding
  • Section 4 – Recognising and responding to safeguarding concerns and abuse
