Child safeguarding Champion of the Year

To wrap up our International Child Safeguarding Week campaign, we shine the spotlight on the people who are dedicated to keeping children safe and have made a significant impact to protect children in their communities.

We are delighted to share that Janet Aguti, Founder and Director of Totya Platform, has been selected by KCS’s independent committee as the Child Safeguarding Champion of the Year 2025.

We recognise Janet for her exceptional efforts to support survivors and prevent sexual violence, integrating emergency medical care, psychosocial support, legal aid and community prevention in her work.

Veronicah Khatsika Mukati

Our independent committee want to acknowledge Veronicah for her proactive leadership at Reuben Center, where she works as the Head of Programmes.

Her skills have helped the Center strengthen partnerships that ensure rapid response to safeguarding issues. Additionally, by implementing good practices such as monitoring, risk assessments and policy reviews, she has fostered a strong culture of child safeguarding in the organisation.

Through continuous training on safeguarding and children’s rights, her organisation is empowering children to raise their voices against abuse and ensuring that they know how to seek help in case it happens.

At the moment, over 4,000 children learn in a safe environment thanks to Veronicah’s and the Reuben Center’s efforts.

Tush Wickramanayaka

Our independent committee recognised the work that Tush has been doing as part of the Stop Child Cruelty Trust and the Child Protection Alliance.

Tush has promoted change in favour of children’s rights through educating society, drawing up policy changes, being an active voice on the media and conducting campaigns.

She has worked on the coordination of a recognised campaign to ban corporal punishment in Sri Lanka, focusing her efforts to advance a law to protect children.

By working on many fronts and thanks to her outstanding commitment to child safeguarding, she has prompted tangible and positive change for children in her community.
