Pastoral Women’s Council: a new member of the KCS Network

We are pleased to announce that the Pastoral Women’s Council (PWC) is now part of the KCS’s Members Network!

PWC is an organisation that works to empower indigenous pastoralist women and girls from the Maasai, Sonjo, Akie, Barabaig, Tatoga and Hadzabe communities in Africa. Their programmes are designed to achieve lasting and sustainable impact across multiple areas of women’s lives: achieving economic empowerment, accessing quality education, enhancing their health, improving their access to clean water and more.

The mission of KCS to end child abuse, exploitation and neglect strongly aligns with our values at Pastoral Women’s Council,‘ they shared. ‘We saw this as a great opportunity to collaborate with a network that shares our deep commitment to safeguarding children, especially those from indigenous communities.’

Looking ahead, the organisation envisions a strong partnership with KCS to enhance their safeguarding systems and culture. They aim to build a team of well-trained staff and stakeholders who fully understand and integrate safeguarding principles across their work, and proactively prevent harm in schools, communities and beyond.

PWC also carries a powerful message for its staff, donors and the wider world: ‘Safety is everything and it doesn’t happen by accident. It requires preparation, awareness and a proactive approach. If we, as individuals and organisations plan ahead, we can prevent a great deal of harm to vulnerable groups especially children, girls and women.’

We are glad to welcome PWC into our network and look forward to working with them to support their work, guided by ‘the vision of a society where children, girls and women are safe from all forms of abuse and neglect socially, economically, psychologically, physically and culturally‘.
