We are pleased to welcome Candlelight for Empowerment CBO into our members network; an organisation working to advance access to education, protection and sustainability for vulnerable young people in Kenya.
Lilian Mamu, founder and Executive Director of the organisation stated that they are ‘delighted to become members and look forward to learning, sharing and contributing to this vital community’. By being part of this global network, they hope to strengthen their capacity to protect children in their local community, Kilifi County, and beyond.
Candlelight for Empowerment CBO’s work is motivated by wanting to transform a reality they encounter daily: children facing risks of violence, exploitation, and neglect at home, in schools and within communities.
Within the next year, the team hopes to enhance the child safeguarding practices of their staff, volunteers and partners while embedding safeguarding across all their programs and organisational culture. Their message to the world aligns with their vision: ‘Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility. At Candlelight, we believe every child has the right to be safe, heard and supported’.
We at KCS are happy to welcome the organisation into the network and hope that this step takes them closer to their vision of a ‘society with equal opportunities to nurture young people’s potential and experience the world, irrespective of poverty, ethnicity, gender, religion or special needs’.
