Expanding Our Network: Tushinde Joins Keeping Children Safe

We are delighted to announce that Tushinde has joined our global network at Keeping Children Safe. Based in Nairobi’s Mathare and Kiambiu informal settlements, Tushinde Children’s Trust is a charity dedicated to providing support and care to over 500 children in vulnerable life situations.

Tushinde believes that every child deserves to grow up in a safe and nurturing environment within their own family. They understand the unique challenges faced by families in the informal settlements, where children are exposed to numerous risks, including abuse, violence, and exploitation. Through their tailored family care and education programs, Tushinde works closely with social workers to strengthen and support families, offering a path from crisis to independence.

Founded in 2010, Tushinde was born out of a deep sense of compassion and a desire to make a difference. Megan Wright, a British woman living in Kenya, witnessed the harsh living conditions in the Mathare Valley and recognised the need for comprehensive support for vulnerable children and their families. With the support of volunteers and partners, Tushinde established a family support programme that looks beyond immediate needs and focuses on finding lasting solutions.

By joining Keeping Children Safe, Tushinde is committed to implementing the highest standards of child safeguarding and sharing their best practices with other organisations and partners. They firmly believe that ensuring the safety and protection of children is a collective responsibility.

As we welcome Tushinde to our network, we are inspired by their unwavering dedication and approach to supporting children and their families. Together, we will work towards creating a safer future for children in Nairobi and beyond.
